The following school year, my junior year, I turned sweet sixteen. I got my license a bit after my birthday - I failed the test the first time and had to retake it on my mom’s car, a stick shift. In my defense I wasn’t allowed to practice driving in drivers ed until I was 16, and I only turned 16 four days before my test, so I had the minimum amount of hands on experience going into the test. Backing into a parking space did me in. So my mom taught me to drive a clutch, which is no small feat in hilly Connecticut.
